Davezilla at CBS after a live appearance
BIO:
I am a seasoned illustrator and initiated practitioner in multiple ancient traditions. I’ve been illustrating books, comics, album covers, logos, and creating brand collateral since the ’80s, bringing a grounded, no-nonsense approach to my work—equal parts talent, experience, and intuition.
I live just north of Detroit in rebellious Royal Oak, Michigan with my partner, daughters, three cats, a dog, fish, and way too many plants. I am influenced by punk rock, '80s indie comics, trashy pulp novel covers, flash tattoo art, and artists like Jamie Hewlett, Sergio Toppi, Austin Osman Spare, Aubrey Beardsley, Arthur Rackham, Nigerian folk art, and cyberpunk sci-fi.
APPROACH:
My work bridges the mystical and the modern, with an eye toward what’s real, what works, and things that go bump in the night. If you need your artwork a little on the arcane side, I’m your man.
I work almost exclusively in vector-based artwork since 1988 (Adobe Illustrator), although if you need real materials, I am also an expert in ink, acrylic, gouache, colored pencil, graphite, watercolor, and charcoal.
SOFTWARE:
Adobe Creative Suite. Affinity Designer and Photo, Figma, Pixelmator Pro, ClipStudio, Notion, Office 365, Google Workspace.
HARDWARE:
MacBook Pro M1, Wacom Cintiq 16, iPad Pro, Logitech Pro Stream Webcam, Blue Yeti Microphone.
FILE SAFETY:
After losing a project to a faulty hard drive many years ago, I became borderline obsessive about backups. Client files are stored locally, mirrored nightly, and redundantly archived to multiple cloud services.
